Buenos Aires city guide, Argentina - Time Out Travel
Buenos Aires city guide, Argentina - Time Out Travel: "Porteños, as the residents of BA are known, display an attitude towards their city comparable with how most people feel about their parents: they criticize it freely themselves but expect others to like and respect it. For most visitors this won't be a problem; BA is easy to love and hard to forget. While the belle époque of cattle money, café society, tango salons and literary grandeur is just a rueful memory - more so thanks to the economic and psychological scars left...

::. Sónar .::. Notícies .::: "SonarEvents Jeff Mills celebrates the 10th anniversary of “The Bells” in Spain
Legendary Detroit DJ Jeff Mills will release a commemorative DVD and be performing in several cities starting 10th February.
“The Bells,” perhaps the most-heavily played techno track in history, has become the anthem of an entire generation. Every time it’s heard, the reaction is invariably euphoric. Even today, ten years later, it’s highlight of countless events, clubs and festivals.
To mark such a distinguished anniversary, Mills’ label, Axis Records is releasing “The Bells 10 Year Anniversary DVD”, distributed by Sonar’s record division in Spain, SonarMusic."

saturday review: downtown detroit at oslo and bleu
ausschlafen - yeah. had some all american breakfast (3-eggs sunny-side up, bacon, sausages, potatoes) at a greek coney island around the corner. walked around my new hometown, stopped in at the borders bookstore to read/buy a book with info on south america (yes, it has a lot of pictures, so i don't have to read too much ;) bought some more things i needed for the apartment at a hardware store.
music/sleep.
looking around detroitluv.com i found there was finally a party that could be my style @ osloworld.com. so i did and the navigation system (i call her "romy" for some reason ;) took me there no problem. it's a sushi place upstairs and a really nice minimalistic club/bar downstairs - this place should rock if a bigger crowd is there, but last night i was outta luck - about 15 people max. i saw another bar/club sign just after oslo, which was bleu - decided to go there until oslo would "start". bad idea: 10$ to get in, 3$ mandatory coat check, bad taste in music (euro-trance-super-trash-kinda-thing), pseudo-dj-worshipping (unreal), silicon-valley-alarm, girls-that-can-not-handle-drinking - i took this for 30 minutes - and walked back to still empty oslo (but great acidhouse music), before i decided for romy to take me home at 1:00 pm :-)
the good thing is: it's early sunday morning and i can cruise to the great lakes - expect some pictures later on. over.

Ghostly / Spectral presents VAULT : March 2006
featuring RYAN ELLIOTT and KONRAD BLACK
On March 3rd, Spectral’s RYAN ELLIOTT will return to Detroit’s OSLO for the latest night of his VAULT residency, this time featuring special guest KONRAD BLACK.
Pegged as one of America’s hottest DJs, Ryan Elliott has maintained his OSLO night since late 2004, following a 2-year tenure alongside DJ partner-in-crime MATTHEW DEAR at Ann Arbor’s Goodnight Gracie. He also crafted the comprehensive, disc-long megamix that accompanies the Spectral Sound, Vol. 1 compilation.
The minimal style of Konrad Black (aka Todd Shillington) combines a signature mix of dirty bass threads with atmospheric sounds. He has collaborated with artists like Swayzak, Cirlcesquare, and UNKLE, and releases his own material on the Wagon Repair imprint, which he co-founded with Matthew Jonson in 2004. Details:

first weekend in birmingham, detroit, michigan
thursday night: quick afterwork meeting @ sandbagger's which is a nice poolbar on van dyke between 10 and 11 mile road. after that meeting with colleague at detroit's bar303 ;) with a pit stop for beers and pizza at a close by supermarket. around 21:30 we left for the "220" in downtown birmingham - very nice bar and restaurant. at 22:30 we entered "the corners".
Detroit Club Scene : Home
friday: 22:00-23:00 - the corners, with a late visit at "blue martini bar" which is located next to the palladium theatre in birmingham. the music at blue martini sucked, but the crowd knew how to work around that.
